Academic Prerequisites
Marks – FA/FSc/Equivalent:
- Minimum 55% marks in FA/FSc and equivalent.
- Candidates who secure 60% marks or above in BA/BSc/BA/BSc (Hons) and BBA/BPA, with 50% marks in FA/FSc are eligible for Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Long Course.
Serving Army Soldiers: 50% marks or above in FA/FSc and equivalent.
Hope Certificate: Candidates who have been promoted in FSC Part-I and Advance Subsidiary Examination 2024 can also apply on ‘HOPE Certificate of 55% marks’ duly issued by the Head of the Institution. FSC, A Levels and equivalent final result card/marks sheet must be submitted within one week of the announcement of board results otherwise candidates will not be considered in the final merit. Candidates who apply on Hope Certificate and obtain less than 55% in FSc and Grade A-C in A Levels will be declared ineligible.
Verification of Marks Sheet/Certificate: Candidates not issued with certificates or in possession of duplicate/revised mark sheets/certificates of Matric/Intermediate/BA/BSC must get a verification certificate signed by the secretary/controller examination of concerned board/university.
‘A’ Levels (equivalence issued by Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC)) candidates with aggregate 55% marks are eligible. However, all the candidates who have passed ‘A’ Levels and equivalent examination from abroad or have passed from Pakistan with the result less than three Cs are required to submit Equivalence Certificate issued by Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC).

Ineligibility Conditions:
Following are ineligible: –
- Twice rejected by Inter Service Selection Board (ISSB).
- Thrice Failure in Initial Tests (Intelligence/Academic) will be ineligible for future PMA Long Course.
- Tested within four months (120 days) gap of previous appearance in Inter Service Selection Board (ISSB) except waiver granted by the competent authority.
- Dismissed/removed/debarred from Government Service including Armed Forces.
- Convicted in a Court of Law for any heinous offence (to be ascertained by the competent military authority).
- Permanently declared UNFIT by Appeal Medical Board (AMB). Declared unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital except those cleared by Appeal Medical Board. However, Pakistan Air Force candidates who become medically unfit for flying but fit for ground branches can undergo routine medical examination as normal candidates if they are desirous to join Pakistan Army.
- Declared medically unfit due to Hepatitis B & C (AMB cannot be requested).
- Withdrawn from any bonded Armed Forces Colleges (Cadet College Jehlum, Murree, Sui and Lower Topa)/institution on disciplinary grounds. Withdrawn/discharged/resigned or purchase of commission from any Armed Forces Officers Academy/Training Institution on any grounds.
- Tampering of academic certificates/forgery/concealment to get undue advantage will render the applicant permanently ineligible for all types of commission in Armed Forces.
- Candidates with Positive Drug Test from CMHs/Military Hospitals/AFIP will be considered as Permanent UNFIT for joining PMA/Training Institutions and blacklisted.
NOTE:
- ISSB selection system assesses natural officer potential. Coaching on ISSB Tests adversely affects the chances of selection and results in many contradictions in personality traits. In case it is found that a candidate trained in any private coaching center, he will be considered ineligible to apply for all types of commissions.
Selection and Recruitment Procedure:
Registration And Preliminary Selection Process
Candidates can register only through the Internet. The following procedure will be adopted:
- Registration through Internet: A candidate can register on the website www.joinpakarmy.gov.pk. A candidate has to visit the website for the exam slip after successfully registering himself. Normally it takes 5 to 7 working days for the generation of the exam slip. Candidates will report on the exact date and time given for the preliminary test on the computerized roll no slip. The date once given will not be changed. Candidates will also bring along documents (as per the list mentioned in the advertisement). Candidates MUST attain working knowledge of the computer as registration and tests will be conducted on computers.
Note:
- The TCC Candidates who apply for PMA Long Course will also be considered as Repeater Candidates.
- Any Candidate applying for PMA L/C for the first time will be considered a Fresh Candidate despite having appeared in ISSB of Pakistan Navy or Pakistan Air Force.
- Repeater candidates must report at concerned Army Selection and Recruitment Centres (AS&RCs) from 09 May 2025 to 23 May 2025 for preliminary tests.
Preliminary Selection: Module-based selection for Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) will be carried out. The following will be included in the initial test with weightages assigned in the module:
- Written/Intelligence and Writing of English and Urdu Essay
- Medical Examination
- Physical Test
- Interview by Preliminary Selection Board headed by Selection and Recruitment Officer (S&RO)
Physical Tests: The following is the minimum criteria set for all candidates, however candidates with better physical results will be marked accordingly:
- 1.6 Km Run – 8 minutes
- Push Ups – 15 repetitions in 2 minutes
- Crunches – 20 repetitions in 2 minutes
- Pull Ups – 3 repetitions in 2 minutes
- Ditch Crossing – 7’4″ x 7’4″ and 4′ deep
Passing all events (with minimum required standards) as per the above table are mandatory for each candidate. A candidate failing in any 1 x event will be considered as Physical Test (PT) Failure and will not be given Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) Form.
Interview: Candidates clearing Written, Medical & Physical Test will be finally interviewed by the S&ROs and Psychologist. Before the interview every candidate will be required to write an essay of 10 lines in English and Urdu. Plain paper will be issued to candidates before the interview for English and Urdu essay. The Topic of the Day will be reflected on the board in the exam hall room. Each candidate will be given marks out of 20, a candidate securing less than 12 marks will be considered a failure and will not be given Inter Services Selection Board (ISSB) Form. The following guidelines are given for the conduct of the interview:
- Expression and confidence in English and Urdu.
- Adequate Knowledge about current affairs.
- Adequate Knowledge about Geography and Pak Studies.
- Overall outlook
- Extra-curricular activities include sports and hobbies.
- Any other aspect as deemed appropriate by the Panel.
- Recording of the interview of every candidate through CCTV will be ensured by all AS&RCs for transparency.
Detailed Bio Data Form: Candidates who successfully pass the Initial Test at AS&RCs will be required to complete the detailed Bio Data Form by clicking on the Online ISSB Application Form available on the course registration website.
After filling the detailed Digital Form, candidates are required to download the Declaration and Character Certificate Form, which is to be verified from a gazetted officer and the concerned principal. The form duly completed is to be submitted in 5 x working days at the respective AS&RC.
Form ‘D’ will be issued to candidates on successful completion of prelim test, which will be deposited along with Character Certificate Form.
SRO to physically sign Form D in the presence of a candidate.
